Hungarian dog breeds

The 9 Hungarian Dog Breeds, which were declared a national treasure by the Parliament in its resolution of 19 April 2004 together with the national animal breeds.

The Hungarian Shepherd Dogs:

The Komondor – One of the oldest Hungarian shepherd breeds, which has preserved its millennial characteristics in appearance and behavior. Its ancient version entered the Carpathian Basin with the nomadic ancient Hungarians. His great body, strength, and courage made him fit to take up the fight with enemies of a similar or larger body in defense of the values entrusted to him. Today it is increasingly used to protect the house, the farm and the farmyards.

The Kuvasz Its exact origin is obscured, it can be assumed that our ancestors were served by dogs very similar to today’s Kuvasz at the time of migration. The flock, the stud and the goose had to be constantly protected from predators and thieves. Due to its appearance and size, it is an imposing, lean, resistant dog breed. He/she really appreciates the care. What he once learned will never be forgotten.

The PuliThe best-known herding Hungarian Shepherd Dog in the world, it is kept and bred in many countries. The puli is a graceful, small-scale, medium-bodied dog with only a charming black nose in its rich, curly fur.

The PumiWith mighty intellect endowed clown. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the French Terrier herding dog breeds that accompanied Merino sheep to Hungary were crossed with Puli, this is how developed with pom-pom ears breed with shorter coat than the Puli. In the Pumi is from a large dose of the Puli’s unrivaled intelligence and the restless nature of the terriers to intersect.

The MudiEven in Hungary, not many people know this healthy, sensible, attractive-looking herding dog. Herding dog with standing ears, wavy or curly fur, with short, smooth hair on the muzzle and front of the legs. The Mudi has retained its excellent herding instinct, making it an ideal dog for both professional shepherds and those interested in herding sports. Many other sports fans will not be disappointed to choose a Mudi.

Hungarian Hunting Dogs:

The Hungarian Shorthaired VizslaShe/He looks at the world with kind, warm brown eyes and mischievous cheerfulness, with greedy attention and longing for the forest game. She/He stretches lazily at home by the hot stove or on the couch, longing endlessly for the caress, but in an instant exploding energy, endless galloping in the field in the scorching sun or crisp snow. Hence its two basic qualities, adaptability and ease of teaching. It is due to these more and more people in the world love it.

The Wirehaired Hungarian VizslaThe history of the Wirehaired Hungarian Vizsla began 70 years ago. The breed was created from the cross between the Hungarian Shorthaired Vizsla and the German Wirehaired Vizsla, with strict selection. Thanks to her coat, she/he is very hardy, her/his intelligence is extremely high, she/he is easy to teach and discipline, but she/he cannot tolerate harsh treatment or harsh teaching.

The Transylvanian Hound – She/He was an indispensable, well-known of the Hungarian royal and Transylvanian princely courts resident. Its history has been closely intertwined with Hungarian history over the centuries, especially with the fate and everyday life of the Hungarian nobility. On the Transylvanian Hound clearly visible hanging ears referring to the Hound breed, the sickle-shaped tail, and the typically rectangular body.

The Hungarian Greyhound – The Greyhounds are the oldest dog breeds, the oldest companions of man. They helped people with their daily subsistence hunt and took care of protecting the family. The history of the Hungarian Greyhound can be traced back to the time of the conquest. As a viable breed, greyhounds have adapted easily and well to the changed conditions of today’s modern world.

Venue of 3 x CAC Show is

Bugac

Bugac is a large village located in the Great Plain, in the Kiskunsági-homokhátság, in the Kiskunsági National Park. Bugac, Bugacs, Bugacháza, Monostorfalva, Bugacmonostor are all names for Bugac, and there is a difference of opinion about what or who the settlement got its name from. The name of the settlement first appeared in a document in 1391, and based on the origin of the name, it was probably founded by Cumans who settled here after the Tatar invasion. According to the Cuman Codex, the word “Buga” means bull. The words Bugac and “Bugacs” are individuals who deal with bulls. A document dated 16 December of 1451 in Halas already precisely indicated the location and location of Bugac. In its place, a flourishing settlement of several square kilometers, consisting of stone houses, stood in the Árpád era, with a basilica and a monastery at its center. Particularly significant finds were discovered among the ruins of the latter.

Until recently, the history of Bugac was closely connected with the city of Kecskemét, which had a leasehold and then an ownership estate for many centuries. We can trace the story back to 1642, when Pál Eszterházy, the chief captain of the Jasz and Cumans, donated 6 Cuman sheer to Kecskemét. This marked the beginning of great development in the Bugac area, both in terms of herding and in terms of land cultivation and farming. With the development of the city of Kecskemét, the utilization of the Kisbugac and Nagybugac sheers also became increasingly important. In addition to animal husbandry, breeding was increasingly emphasized on the sheers. At the end of the 19th century, 8-10,000 cattle, 5-6,000 horses and foals were grazing on the Bugac and Monostor pusztas every year.

01 January of 1950 brought perhaps the most significant change in Bugac’s history. After several centuries of dependence on Kecskemét, Bugac became an independent municipality with its own council, and in 1970 it was granted the status of a large village. A significant change in the life of the municipality came in 1989, when Bugacpusztaháza became an independent municipality.

The Bugac sheer became world-famous, thanks to the declaration of a part of the area as a protected, National Park. Bugac and Bugacpuszta tourism still plays a significant role in the life of the village today.

Visitors to the Bugac sheer can still see the artifacts from the ancestral occupation and shepherd life, and during the tourist season, the puszta five, the life of a colts, the ancient animal species, the Hungarian grey cattle, the stud farm and the racka sheeps can also be seen in the daily presentations. After the National Park walk and the horse shows, tourists can get to know Hungarian food, flavors and fiery Great Plain wines in the Karikás village inn, Bugaci village inn, Délibáb villange inn and Táltos horse boardinghouse along with gypsy music.

Bugac is one of the best-known Hungarian steppes, and is still a central area of indigenous Hungarian domestic livestock breeding. It is part of the Kiskunság National Park, where sandy forests and sandy bushes, marshes, bogs, wet meadows and salt marshes alternate with ancient woodland of outstanding natural value. In many places, the landscape is still reminiscent of the forested wastelands of the past. The lime-rich sandy outcrops with their varied shapes and textures are home to valuable flora. Insect fauna is also very rich. It is interesting that the saw-footed grasshopper is the only occurrence in the Great Plain. Its reptile fauna is also internationally significant due to the endangered European viper living here. The most common mammal is the hare.

Bugac has been a well-known tourist destination in the former Kecskemét sheers for a century now. You can visit the Shepherd Museum, which presents the diverse life of the past shepherds. The museum is designed to present the life of the Kiskunság shepherds. It presents the traditional tools and equipment they used, as well as the natural values of the area. The sight of the grey cattle, racka sheep and horses grazing in the puszta also contributes to the authentic experience.

Next to the museum is the Ősborókás, as well as some old shepherd’s buildings. The Karikás village inn offers excellent food for guests looking to cool off in the heat. The Boróka Nature Trail, which can be visited all year round, provides a great insight into the wildlife of the Great Forest and the sand dunes.
