The venue of the 2 x CAC Dog Show is
Gyulavári
In 1776, Gyulavári belonged to the Kétégyház manor, later it became an independent settlement, and from April 1, 1977, it administratively belongs to the city of Gyula city. Gyula and Gyulavári are only separated by White-Kőrös from one another. In addition to the castle park with a calm environment, you can also encounter the hidden treasures of the part of cty on a daily basis.
The organization chose the park of the Almásy-Pongrácz-Wenckheim Castle in Gyulavár as the venue for the CAC exhibition.
The hydrographic and topographic features played a significant role in the history of the castle. Based on contemporary maps, it can be established that the castle and the manor were located on the peninsula enclosed by White-Kőrös.
After the expulsion of the Turks, the Southern Great Plain was almost completely depopulated. In 1698, Jakab János Lőwenburg estimates the destroyed villages along the Körösök and buys the sheers of Gyulavári, Kétégyházi, Várai and Keszi. In 1716, he move to Gyulavári, then built a major house and a major.
After Lőwenburg’s death, the estate passed to Antal Gróf Gaisruck, and after the treasury bought it back in 1741, it was sold to Zsigmond Andrássy, the deputy lord of Csongrád County. Andrássy made Kétégyháza the center of the manor, where he built a castle and a chapel.
The Kétégyház manor returns to the treasury from the Andrássys, which is bought by Ignác Gróf Almássy in 1794. Later, after the Gyula fire, the Gyula empire passed to the Wenckheims, presumably the castle was built around this time.
A distillery was built near the castle in 1842, and the Wenckheim estate was acquired by the Almássy family from 1869. The heir of Count Kálmán Almássy (1815) who acquired the estate, his son Dénes (1863), who moves in Gyulai castle with his wife Ella Károlyi.
In 1933, Count Dénes Almássy bequeathed the Gyulavár estate, Szigetmajor, with the mansion on it to his daughter. The rest of the Gyulavár estate was inherited by the sisters. Jenő Count Pongrácz marries Countess Jeanne Almássy. On the estate of Count Pongrácz 1919-1945. year there is a mill, a meat processing plant, a distillery and a brick factory. The seven-member count family only stayed in the Vári Castle in summer and autumn. In the fall, many guests arrived and big hunts were held, the 200 hectares of forest belonging to the castle were a game park extremely rich in game. The castle and estate were managed by understewards during the winter.
In 1945, the distillery, machine shop and other properties around the factory became cooperative property. The castle was owned by the descendants of Count Ignác Almássy until 1948, and from 1948 the building was owned by the local farmers’ co-operative, they used as a warehouse. In 1949, a decision was made to build a sports field near the castle, which was completed in 1952.
The manor building, which has completely deteriorated in its structure, was restored by the local farmers’ co-operative, they put it in order with a serious financial outlay, and from 1963 they also located his offices here. In the western part of the building, most of the roof was strengthened (leveled) in 1984 and the shell was renovated.
After the liquidation of the production cooperative, the castle has been uninhabited since the beginning of the 1990s, its condition is deteriorating, and it is occasionally vandalized on purpose. The city of Gyula eventually bought the area and then made an attempt to save the castle, which was declared a monument in the meantime. Finally, in 2004, with another change of ownership, the complex was completely renovated, and the Gyulavári Castle Visitor Center opened its doors in 2017.
The Castle and the park are located in the interior of Gyulavári village, the area of the park has now shrunk to just 1.8 ha. In addition to the main building, which currently consists of 14 rooms, corridors and basements, the complex also includes an economic and residential building, a chapel, and a huge park. The exact time of the castle’s construction has not been clarified, but it is certain that it was already ready when the distillery was built (1842).
It was built as a simple country mansion, the outstanding decoration of which is the ornate window basket protecting the windows. The ornate grilles were made by manorial blacksmiths with great skill and artistic demand, they give the building its characteristic features. The terrace with stone railings and flower boxes in front of the main entrance and the curved side steps from the courtyard with the surviving wrought iron railings are original. A cellar was built under part of the castle, but there is also a smaller cellar under the house. The hexagonal Catholic chapel also belonged to the mansion.
Currently, visitors can get to know the natural, cultural and ethnographic heritage of the Southern Great Plain in the 18th-century noble Castle in Gyulavári. The park belonging to the building is a nature.
