The venue of the 3 x CACIB Dog Show is

Agárd

Agárd is one of the part of Gárdony city, the oldest and perhaps the most famous resort on Lake Velence, a resort and leisure center with a garden-town atmosphere. The famous Pop Beach is located in Agárd, the Géza Gárdonyi Memorial House and the Gárdonyi Log Castle are also located here.

Agárd’s first written record dates from 1193, when III. Béla donated part of it to the convent of the Crusaders of Fehérvár. The royal part was inhabited by courtiers, which IV. Béla donated it to the provost of Csút in 1264. In the following centuries it had many owners, including the Nádasdy family from the early 1850s to the 1930s. The holiday zone began to be built, with a pre-planned, regular street network. At a county meeting held in 1930, it was decided on a bathing life to be established on the entire southern shore of the lake. Agárd’s facilities were considered to be more favorable for the construction of the villa complex, while Gárdony was more suitable for shops and workshops. Due to this, Agárd started to develop rapidly in the thirties. 1,500 parceled holiday plots were sold, which were named Nádasdy’s Bath and Resort. From the 1930s onwards, II. More than 700 holiday homes were built in Agárd by the end of World War II, but after the war its development came to a halt and it was not until the 1960s that it recovered. By the 1970s, Agárd had become one of Hungary’s best-known tourist destinations.

The main attraction of Agárd – outside the beaches – is the healing thermal water. A thermal bath was built in 1984 on the 50 ° C thermal water discovered in the southern border of Agárd, in the Bika Valley, and was developed into a medical center in 2004.

In Agárd, near the Bath, is the famous Agárd Pálinka Distillery, where steamed spirits are made from the juicy fruits of the area. The Agárd cellars of the Lake Velence Wine Route offer typical wines to visitors.

The more than 30-year-old Agárdi Pop Strand, one of the most well-known summer meeting places of Hungarian pop and rock bands, enriches the program with a colorful concert palette. The most open-air and human-scale open-air stage in the countryside, a beautiful 2.2-meter-high, waterfront, grassy natural environment, giant stage where everyone can see everything! The Agárd experience is further enhanced by the free of charge retro parties at Dance Beach. Agárd Popstrand nowadays awaits its youthful guests not only in summer, but also on winter weekends. Agárd Popstrand Ice Rink, currently the largest ice rink in Hungary suitable for sliding and skating.

The famous native of the settlement is Géza Gárdonyi. He took his last name in honor of his native village, where he spent his childhood. The building, which houses the memorial house since 1988, is also the birthplace of Géza Gárdonyi. In the interlocking rooms in the house, the visitor can get acquainted with the documents, photographs and memorabilia of the writer’s life. The exhibition presents the main stages of Géza Gárdonyi’s life and the outstanding values of his literary work. In addition to his diary and the most beautiful editions of his works, some original personal items can be viewed in the shelves. we can get to know his creative method, his work as a writer, we can get a glimpse into his special cryptography. In the building you can also see a kitchen equipped with contemporary utensils and furniture. The birthplace of Géza Gárdonyi and the descriptions on the walls bring Gárdonyi’s life and work closer.

The Gallery of Lake Velence is located next to the Géza Gárdonyi Memorial House. The new arts center functions as a cultural facility that preserves and creates values: a space for creation and presentation.

The Rönkvár in Gárdonyi was built next to the birthplace of Géza Gárdonyi, a miniature copy of the Eger Castle. The establishment modeling the castle of Eger awaits the guests wishing to be adventurous with open gates and colorful programs. The Rönkvár can contribute to the preservation of the memory of heroic standing, similarly to Géza Gárdonyi’s novel The Stars of Eger.

Wandering around the castle, visitors get closer for that age, to the people who lived then; the events of the novel will be more experiential after the adventures in the log castle. The castle captain of Gárdony guides the visitors through the castle, the dungeon system, and of course they can get a glimpse into the life of the castle guards!

The natural values of the settlement are faithfully represented by the Chernel István Madárvárta, built between 1957-59 by Jenő Radetzky. Its aim is to teach young people, entertain visitors and educate them about nature conservation. In addition to researchers, it welcomes children and other interested parties during the summer holidays.

The biggest event in the town is the Lake Venice Wildlife, Wine and Pálinka Festival on the first weekend of May, whose special experience programs attract thousands of guests.

Lake Venice offers numerous excellent opportunities for water sports, water skiing and surfing for water sports enthusiasts, but there are also opportunities for kayaking and canoeing in the area, as well as great opportunities for anglers to enjoy their beloved sport.

It is also possible to take a cruise from the arrival of spring until late autumn, starting from Agárd, touching the clearings and reeds of special names.

Come and visit us too, the organizers are waiting for you!
