The city of the 2 x CAC Dog Show is
Nyíregyháza
Nyíregyháza is the seat of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county and the 7th largest city in Hungary, the economic and cultural center of Nyírség. A dynamically developing city. The second most important settlement in the Northern Great Plain is an attractive tourist destination. Writer Gyula Krúdy and painter Gyula Benczúr were also born here.
The first written mention of the name of the city is from 1209. The prefix of Nyíregyháza, Nyír, dates back to the 13th century. appeared in the 16th century, a source dating from 1326, although it mentions the settlement as a the church place. A XV. in the middle of the century „Nyíregyház” was a populated place with a population of nearly four hundred. In the 1630s and 40s, Hajduks were settled in place of residents fleeing Turkish taxation and Tartar arson. However, the people living here It was regularly looted from the second half of the 17th century taxed by migrating troops, and even epidemics and natural disasters made their lives difficult.
When Nyíregyháza was granted the privilege of a market town in 1786 and held four national fairs, it was already the most populous place in the county with seven and a half thousand inhabitants. At the National Assembly of 1832-36 the settlement set as the example to follow it received a special royal privilege, and in 1837 became a privileged market town.
Many people from Nyíregyháza also took part in the war of independence in 1848-49. In the summer of 1849, Russian troops stationed here several times. After the fall, several citizens were imprisoned, including Mayor Márton Hatzel.
In the second half of the 19th century, the city became further urbanized: in 1858, the first train ran, and financial institutions were established. In 1876, the continuously developing Nyíregyháza became the seat of Szabolcs county. In the „happy times of peace” the telegraph, the post office and the water palace, the theater were built, and then in 1911 the first tram was started.
The economic, cultural and demographic development of the city has been continuous since the 1960s. Industrialization began, the population increased, housing estates were built. Nyíregyháza has become a school town: the education began at the colleges of theology, teacher training, agriculture, and health.
Today, the city with a population of over 120,000 boasts with rich cultural and sports institutions, public collections, a Museum Village, an big animal park, a picturesque salt lake and a high-quality artistic life.
The city also stands out among the cities of the eastern regions of the country in terms of tourism. The most significant attractions in the city center are the Town Hall, the Korona Hotel, the County Hall, the Zsigmond Móricz Theater, the András Jósa Museum, the Roman Catholic, Greek Catholic, Reformed and Lutheran churches, and the János Tuzson Botanical Garden, which is located in the college grounds of Nyíregyháza.
The area around the city also attracts nature lovers. The Sóstó Park Forest, the City Park and the surroundings of Lake Bujtos are visited by countless hikers every year, guided by the love of nature.
The Sóstó Spa promises a pleasant refreshment for the guests visiting here in all seasons, which is a popular resting place for those who want to relax and recover. A 2000 m² park is surrounded by a warm lake with a temperature of about 26 ° C. In a forest environment there is a beach, boating lake, healing thermal water, open-air swimming pool on the lake, parks, beautiful buildings.
The Nyíregyháza Zoo (Sóstó ZOO) is located in the resort area of Sóstó, the largest zoo in the country, where we can see 5,000 individuals of 500 species in an environment similar to their natural habitat. Nyíregyháza Zoo is located 5 km from the city in the resort area of Sóstó, where a beach bath, a Village Museum and a park forest provide relaxation for visitors. The Zoo in this natural, it is located in an almost undisturbed environment in the depths of an oak forest, leaving the natural treasures found here intact. In the Zoo we can admire the animals placed by continent. In the Animal Park we can admire the animals by continent. The purpose of the layout was to allow visitors to travel around the Earth and thus get to know the fauna of each continent.
The Sóstó Zoo considers the protection of habitats important, therefore, it works with local conservation organizations to rescue and heal endangered individuals of protected and highly protected species. The Zoo is able to show and teach something new for all ages. With the help of their spectacular educational and cultural programs, they pay more attention to encouraging and teaching children to love animals.
The CAC dog show is traditionally hosted by the Museum Village in Sóstófürdő, Nyíregyháza. At such times we can meet hundreds of “dogs” in the courtyards of old houses, on the porches, on the roads leading to the gates.
The open-air Museum Village, which opened in 1979, promises a real spectacle to the guests visiting here with its characteristic architecture and traditions of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, and we can admire the most beautiful pieces of folk architecture here. In the Museum Village you can also get an insight into a school, grocery store and pub from the old days. The Museum Village is also the ethnographic museum of the county, because the complete ethnographic collection of the András Jósa Museum can be found here.
In the Museum Village we can meet many different and varied programs almost all year round, in addition, permanent exhibitions are also waiting for the visitors. In 1996, the Museum Village was awarded the title of “Museum of the Year” and in 2006 the “Family-Friendly Museum”.
