The city of the 2 x CAC Dog Show is

Békéscsaba

Békéscsaba is the seat of Békés county and the 12th most populated city in Hungary, an important road and railway junction.

According to archaeologists, Békéscsaba was established in the first half of the 13th century. The Árpádian settlement may have been south of today’s city center, in the area of the Castle Vineyards. The settlement is first mentioned in the papal tithe register of 1332-1337. Next to Csaba, eight other settlements stood where the city now stands. In 1521, the castle of the Ábránfy family probably stood, written record first mentions it in 1529. In Turkish times, the city withstood for a long time, first suffering damage during the Fifteen Years’ War and later during the 17th century. However, during the liberation struggles with the Turks, he became completely depopulated. According to recent research, its population did not perish completely, but fled. In 1703, the Rác people burned the village, making it depopulated again.

The settlement of the Tót people lasted until the end of the 18th century. The many free lands, and due to the large natural population growth, the population of the village tripled between 1773 and 1847, exceeding 22,000. In 1840, Békéscsaba received the rank of a market town. By 1858 the railway line had reached the city, and development had accelerated, with new houses and factories being built. The great world economic crisis between the two world wars brought poverty and unemployment, and in 1925 even a huge flood devastated the city. From the sixties onwards, planned industrialization began, as did poultry processing and the printing industry.

Békéscsaba is one of the most livable cities in the country thanks to its groves and flower-filled squares and charming promenades. Thanks to its centuries-old buildings, events and the natural values of the area, more and more tourists visit the city every year.

One of the most atmospheric parts of the city is the Living Water Canal, which starts from the Fehér-Körös River and opens into Kettős-Körös. The Széchenyi grove is located on the shore, where a new ecotourism visitor center awaits nature lovers in the “Music Pavilion” building built in 1850.

The park can be the scene of special and romantic walks in the lungs of the city, its unique flora and beautifully designed resting parts. The works of the sculpture promenade along the canal they preserve the memory of famous people associated with the city.

The symbol of Békéscsaba is the largest Lutheran church in Central Europe, the Lutheran Great Church and the monumental Little Lutheran Church built in 1745. Definitely worth a visit also to the Slovak Country House, which presents the traditions of the local Slovak people. The most beautiful monuments of the city are the 19th century Fiume Hotel, the Jókai Theater and the City Hall.

In Békéscsaba, high-quality gastronomic and cultural events await visitors throughout the year. The Csaba Sausage Festival, held every October, has grown into one of the most prestigious gastronomic events in the country. The series of programs is complemented by cultural and entertainment events as well as pig slaughters from year to year, but the real attraction is the sausage kneading, which is visited by a whole range of Hungarian celebrities every time. The largest outdoor events in the city include the Csaba Beer Festival and Csülökparádé, as well as the Békéscsaba Lecsó Festival.

The place of dog shows is the Castle Park in Póstelek

The place was part of the Gerla estate of the Wenckheim family in the 19th century. It gained significance again in 1895, when Count Antal Széchényi married Countess Krisztina Wenckheim. Krisztina as a dowry close to the parents’ estates, rich in forest approx. He received a 3,000-acre estate in Póstelek. The castle was built between 1906 and 1909 on behalf of Count Frigyes Széchényi and his wife, based on the plans of Vilmos Siedek.

After the castle was built, renowned foreign garden designers dreamed up and designed the imposing park around the castle, along with the French and English gardens. The determinant trees of the former park were the ash and the oak, as well as conifers. The park is on 1.5 hectares, this was enriched with a magnificent French-Baroque rose garden, in which was 40,000 roses of 600 rose varieties. The picturesque rose garden was bordered by English-style boxwood bushes, marking the boundaries of the garden. In addition to family members, only the gardeners could enter the garden. Behind the castle was a spectacular boating pond of water lily has been created, as well as a swimming pool. Between 1920 and 1930, the park and garden flourished, and its diverse flora provided a captivating spectacle that delighted both the eye and the soul.

It all ended in 1944, the owners were forced to flee their homes, exposing the Castle and its wonderful park and surroundings to free prey. Unfortunately, the locals dismantled the building, whose condition has been steadily deteriorating.

Weinckheim Castle and the park remains of the manor have been a nature reserve since 1989. Among its special tree species we find the largest iron tree in the county, the red-leaved beech, the swamp oak and huge pedunculate the oak specimens. The park is home to 29 deciduous, 12 evergreen tree species and 14 shrub species. The fauna of the park is also diverse, and a large number of songbirds live in the shrub layer, whose sound makes it a pleasant place to hike in a wooded park surrounded by forests. Occurrences of 500 butterfly species have been detected in the area. Among the protected beetle species here is the stag beetle occurs.

The remains of the English park belonging to the Póstelek castle are part of the Póstelek leisure center.
