City of the Night CACIB Dog Show is

Sárvár

Sárvár is a small town in Western Transdanubia with a long history, located on the two banks of the river Rába, which forms the geographical axis of Vas county, in the estuary area of the Gyöngyös stream.

It is an area rich in natural features and has been inhabited since the Neolithic Age. The ancient Rába crossing point was owned by Celtic buoys before the Roman conquest. Their fortress was at Ostffyasszonyfa-Földvárpuszta. A Kr. U. At the beginning of the 1st century, the area of the Amber Road was occupied, so the area of Sárvár also came under Roman administration. Sárvár remained an inhabited area even after Roman rule. The conquering Hungarians built an earthen castle here against the German attacks. The castle was owned by the king until the 1280s. During the period of feudal anarchy until 1327, the Kőszegi family owned it. The manor of the castle was created by palatine János Kőszegi. In 1327 he was returned to the king’s possession by siege. Sárvár remained a royal castle until 1390. Sigismund of Luxembourg donated the castle and manor to János Kanizsai in 1390. Until 1535, the Kanizsa family owned Sárvár with minor interruptions. Led by Ferenc Nádasdy, the population repulsed the Turkish siege in 1532. Tamás Nádasdy and Orsolya Kanizsai married in 1535, so Sárvár became the property of the Nádasdy family.

The humanist Tamás Nádasdy established one of the cultural centers of the decaying country in the market town. In the courtyard of Tamás Nádasdy were often guest the scientists, artists, humanists, doctors, architects of the age. Sebestyén Lantos of Tinódi died in Sárvár in 1556 and rests in the land of the city. Country judge Ferenc Nádasdy was beheaded in 1671 and Sárvár became the property of the Draskovich family. During the Draskovichs and the 18th century possessives, Sárvár began to decline. Development began after 1803, when the Este-Modena family became the owners of the estate. Sárvár lived its heyday in the age of dualism. The sugar factory was built in 1895 and the rayon factory in 1904. As a result, small-scale industry and retail have boomed and the population has been growing steadily. The manor was developed into a model farm by its new owner, Louis the Prince of Bavaria. It was then that the educational institutions that formed the basis of today’s school system were founded, and in 1909 the present-day hospital was inaugurated.

After World War I, the development of the settlement came to a halt, and after the closure of the rayon factory, part of the population emigrated to France and Belgium due to unemployment. A II. After World War II, a new plant, the Poultry Processing Company, began operations. From 1958, new plants were established in Sárvár. In 1961, oil explorers found a treasure more valuable than gold in the womb of the earth: medicinal water. Spa tourism based on natural resources will play an important role in the future development of Sárvár. On August 20, 1968, Sárvár regained its city status, which it had lost in 1871. In the 1970s, the city was enriched with new plants and schools. After the renovation of the Nádasdy Castle, in 1978 it became the cultural center of Sárvár. An industrial park has been built in the city since 1995. 101 years after joining the national telephone network, from January 1, 1996, a modern digital telephone network will help the population and visitors to the city.

Sárvár, located in the Rába Valley, is one of the friendliest places in Hungary, with a little history, a little nature and a little relaxation waiting for visitors.

The city is demanding, clean, it is definitely worth walking around on the sightseeing light rail, as it passes the main attractions! During the nearly one-hour drive you can see the eclectic Town Hall on the main square, the Memorial to the Blessed Lady of the Millennium, dedicated to the thousandth anniversary of Hungary’s existence, and the churches of the city. Sebestyén Tinódi Lantos was laid to rest in the cemetery of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, and the Lutheran Church is a very nice classicist style building.

The pulsating heart of the city is the Nádasdy Castle, which is an excellent point of orientation. The Renaissance castle is one of the most outstanding monuments in the country, a symbol of the city. Today’s palace complex evolved from a 13th-century, three-story residential tower in the south-west corner of the castle, and from the northern one-story wing of today’s block. The first mention of the rebuilt castle dates from 1288. The building complex exudes a real medieval atmosphere with a high gate tower, a red brick arched bridge leading to it and the moat itself. The ceremonial hall is one of the most beautiful baroque interiors in Hungary. The Renaissance castle is part of the Hungarian National Heritage!

The Nádasdy Museum operates in the castle, named after Ferenc Nádasdy, whose art collection was famous far and wide in the 17th century. The museum has thematic exhibitions, we can get acquainted with the history and heritage of the Nádasdy family, a significant ethnographic and applied art collection, and in the tower room the age of Sebestyén Tinódi Lantos, who found refuge in the castle and died here. The hussar history exhibition is world-class, of which, apart from Sárvár, we can only find a similar collection in France.

Sárvár awaits its visitors with more natural values! Starting to the right of the castle, a beautiful park has been created in the moats, and through it you can get to the Arboretum, where more than 100 special types of wood offer real sights! The beautiful promenades and the artificial lakes fed by Gyöngyös exude real tranquility!

The Boating Lake, which consists of four parts and is connected by five islands and five bridges, offers a beautiful view. It is a really cozy place, fishing is possible in the 9-hectare water, boating, and in winter it can be used as a skating lake by the residents of the city.

Those wishing to relax are probably most attracted to the Spa and Wellness Bath. Undoubtedly, the most important attraction of Sárvár is the two types of medicinal waters found here, which laid the foundation for the development seen today. In the vicinity of Sárvár, 43 ° C medicinal water erupts from a depth of 1,200 meters, and 83 ° C with high salinity from 2000 meters. An important component of 83 ° C medicinal water is sodium chloride, bicarbonate, iodine, bromine, fluorine, and many trace elements. The famous Sárvár Thermal Crystal is produced by distillation from high-salt medicinal water. The salt bath is effective in some musculoskeletal, gynecological and dermatological diseases.

Right next to the adventure pool, a great adventure park has been created, with a 120-seat cable car, a 10-meter-high climbing wall and an archery course. A challenging task, a must-have program for any holidaymaker looking for adventure.

The city awaits visitors to Sárvár with programs corresponding to its tourist significance. Most of the events take place in the inner courtyard of Nádasdy Castle. The International Folklore Festival, which dates back a decade and a half, is also held here. The culmination of the programs, which lasted for almost a week, is the most spectacular moment of the gala show on August 20, the costumed parade of the participants in the streets of the city center, evoking a carnival atmosphere. Also connected to the castle are the regularly held international wind festivals, international hussar meetings, and meetings with sung poems evoking the spirit of Sebestyén Tinódi, the Historical Days. At the end of the season, the Simon-Judas fair in late autumn deserves mention with its half-thousand vending tents and huge fairgrounds.
